Cowboy Up
Daily Schedule and Requirements

This is a schedule to give you some idea of what to expect each day.
Schedules can vary as to guides and type of work being done.

Arrive Sunday Evening:

Day One:

6:30-7:30 a.m. Coffee and Breakfast at Sassy's Cafe
8:00 a.m.


Horsemanship Clinic.
Teaching safety, catching, handling, tying, grooming, saddling, riding in arena
Noon: Lunch
1:00 p.m. Back on horses in arena
If everyone is doing well we will take a short ride on ranch to give you a feel for ranch riding
4:00 p.m. Short break
4:30 p.m.
Roping ground school
The rope is the second most important cowboy tool
5:30 p.m. End of roping school
7:00 p.m. Dinner at Sassy's Cafe

Day Two:

6:30-7:30 a.m. Coffee and Breakfast at Sassy's Cafe
8:00 a.m. Teach basic horse shoeing and trimming
Noon Lunch
1:00 p.m.

Saddle up and ride the ranch
To be sure everyone can ride safely
3:00 p.m. Unsaddle, groom horse and short break
4:30 p.m.

Roping lesson #2
With emphasis on "Slack and Dally" and the dangers it has for cowyboys
5:30 p.m. End of roping school #2
7:00 p.m. Dinner at Sassy's Cafe

Day Three:

6:30-7:30 a.m. Breakfast and Coffee
8:00 a.m.

Pack up gear and horses and move to ranch until Saturday
10:30 a.m. Head out and see what you don't know
12:30 p.m. Set up "Cow Camp" and lunch
2:30 p.m. The work begins
7:00 p.m.  Return to camp and start dinner
Guest will be instructed on building fire and will be responsible for all cooking while in cow camp.
Ram Rod will be teaching you how to be a "cowboy".

Day Four and Five:

Sunrise:

Cook breakfast, check horse and saddle up for a days work
Sunset:

Unsaddle horses and take care of them
Fix dinner, get to our bedrolls

Day Six:

Sunrise: More of the same breakfast and saddle up
Sometime:

Pack gear and bedrolls and head back to headquarters
Evening:





Graduation Dinner and the biggest story telling party you ever saw
Graduation???
All cowboys can spin a yarn-its part of being a cowboy

Items you need to bring:

Cowboy boots (leather soles preferred) 4 pairs of cowboy jeans (not hip huggers)
4 longsleeve shirts 7 bandana's
1 pair of leather gloves Cowboy hat
7 pair of socks and underwear Rain slicker or jacket depending on season
Canteen for water Bedroll or sleeping bag
Medications, if needed 250 pound weight limit for horses

Options:

Pocket knife Talcum powder Personal items

Important Rules and Information:

  1. Safety is paramount - Guide has the right to remove any person or persons acting in an unsafe manner or a person or persons causing trouble for the group.

  2. No smoking on ranch except in designated areas.

  3. No alcoholic beverages will be allowed on ranch.

  4. All camp work and cooking will be done by the cowboy trainees. Guide will be an advisor. This is your chance to learn the cowboy way of life, and cowboys learn by doing.

  5. There will be no special diets, it will be cowboy chuck (food).

  6. We respectfully request that you be checked by your doctor to be sure you are able to undertake this type of strenuous activity.

  7. If you have a heart condition or high blood pressure we do not recommend this activity.

  8. All cowboys both men and women will be expected to be respectful at all time to each other and the guide. It's the cowboy way.

  9. Offensive language will not be tolerated. Its not needed or required.

  10. There is a weight limit fo the horses, it is 250 pounds. It is not only for the horses safety but yours.

  11. You will be allowed 1 change of clothing on the ranch-socks and underwear can be daily.

  12. Baths will be taken in a ranch pond if you want one, however, no soap is allowed. Fish don't like it.
